Thoughts on Mindfulness in OT
I was browsing twitter, and came across a pretty interesting article titled "Mindfulness and Occupational Therapy: Your New Secret Power." It sparked my interest because who doesn't want a new secret power? The article was a great read, and I feel that it reflected occupational therapy (OT) pretty spot on. One of the major aspects of OT is holistic healthcare. This means looking at a person as a whole, and not just seeing them as a disease, illness, or disability. An OT looks at their client's mind, body, and soul. That being said, this article gives a great definition of mindfulness. The article says, "Mindfulness is a mental state achieved by focusing a nonjudgemental awareness on the present moment." This can help with depression, anxiety, pain management, and also "engagement in occupations." I love how this article focuses on the mind and psychological aspects of injury and disabilities. It really incorporates the different struggles a client ...
Katlyn, I loved your video! That is so great that you got to experience so many new things on this FW. I loved your goal to be more organized, I am with you there and would loved to be more organized before Level 2s get here. It sounds like you got to do a lot of hands on this FW which is always exciting! Thanks for sharing and see you soon!
ReplyDeleteKatlyn, thanks for sharing your experience! I think it is so cool that you got to see a spinal surgery on your rotation! It seems like your FWEd exposed you to unique things and made the most of your two weeks there. I was in an acute setting on my last Level I and I also enjoyed seeing the OT/PT collaboration with clients as they each can meet the client's needs with their expertise. I completely agree that getting organized is a priority once back on campus. I'd like to get together and see how you're going to organize your notes so we can compare what may be the most efficient method. Have a great summer and I enjoyed hearing about your experience!
